We aimed to compare detailed fat distribution and lipid profile between young adults with congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 21-hydroxylase enzyme deficiency and a control group. We also verified independent associations of treatment duration and daily hydrocortisone dose equivalent (HDE) with lipid profile within patients. This case–control study included 23 patients (7 male and 16 female) matched by an age range of young adults (18–31 years) with 20 control subjects (8 male and 12 female). Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure the fat distribution. Male patients demonstrated elevated indices of fat mass for total (7.7 ± 2.1 vs. 4.5 ± 1.3 kg/m2, p = 0.003), trunk (4.0 ± 1.2 vs. 2.2 ± 0.8 kg/m2, p = 0.005), android (0.63 ± 0.24 vs. 0.32 ± 0.15 kg/m2, p = 0.008), gynoid (1.34 ± 0.43 vs. 0.74 ± 0.24 kg/m2, p = 0.005), arm (0.65 ± 0.16 vs. 0.39 ± 0.10 kg/m2, p = 0.009), and leg regions (2.7 ± 0.8 vs. 1.6 ± 0.4 kg/m2, p = 0.005) than the control group, but not in females. However, female patients demonstrated elevated ratio of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (1.90 ± 0.46 vs. 1.39 ± 0.47, p = 0.009) than the control group, but not in males. Total fat mass was inversely correlated with total testosterone (r = −0.64, p = 0.014) and positively correlated with leptin in males (r = 0.75, p = 0.002). An elevated daily HDE (β = 0.43, p = 0.038 and β = 0.47, p = 0.033) and trunk to total fat mass ratio (β = 0.46, p = 0.025, and β = 0.45, p = 0.037) were independently correlated with impaired lipid profile markers. Although there is no altered lipid profile, male patients demonstrated an increased fat distribution. However, female patients presented with an impaired lipid profile marker but demonstrated close values of normal fat distribution. Interestingly, the dose of glucocorticoid therapy can have some role in the lipid mechanisms.  相似文献

Ceramic materials have tremendous demand in manufacturing sectors. However, poor machinability impedes their widespread applications on an industrial scale. BK-7 falls in the same category and is normally processed by ultrasonic machining. But nowadays rotary ultrasonic machining is overtaking the ultrasonic machining for processing difficult to cut materials because of its superlative material removal mechanism. Current study aims to improve the surface quality of BK7 by studying the effect of input factors on surface roughness during rotary ultrasonic machining. Response surface methodology has been used to observe the effect of input variables ― spindle speed, feed rate and ultrasonic power ― on surface roughness (SR). Thereafter, central composite design was employed to estimate the regression coefficients of quadratic model for surface roughness. Fitness of developed quadratic model was checked by ANOVA test, which also revealed that all the model terms of input factors were significant except feed and speed interaction. Feed has the maximum impact over surface roughness descended by moderate impact of power and spindle speed. The study was further reinforced on observing the surface integrity of processed surfaces using scanning electron microscopic images. Mixed flow of material was observed to occur at lower feed rate and higher levels of rpm and ultrasonic power.  相似文献

Central force optimization (CFO) is an efficient and powerful population-based intelligence algorithm for optimization problems. CFO is deterministic in nature, unlike the most widely used metaheuristics. CFO, however, is not completely free from the problems of premature convergence. One way to overcome local optimality is to utilize the multi-start strategy. By combining the respective advantages of CFO and the multi-start strategy, a multi-start central force optimization (MCFO) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The performance of the MCFO approach is evaluated on a comprehensive set of benchmark functions. The experimental results demonstrate that MCFO not only saves the computational cost, but also performs better than some state-of-the-art CFO algorithms. MCFO is also compared with representative evolutionary algorithms. The results show that MCFO is highly competitive, achieving promising performance.  相似文献

Enhanced gravity, or centrifugal, separators have revolutionised gold processing over the past decades, significantly increasing the recovery of fine (−100 μm) free gold. One of the main drawbacks of centrifugal gravity concentrators is the large volume of water required (even if it is all recycled). With water becoming an ever increasingly important “commodity”, reducing this is of importance both from an environmental and a monetary point of view. This work investigated operating a laboratory scale Knelson Concentrator with a dry feed and using air as the fluidising medium. The feed used was a synthetic mixture of tungsten and quartz, used to mimic a gold ore. The response surface method and central composite design techniques were used to design the experiments and to model the results, with the experimental variables being the bowl speed (G-Level), air fluidising pressure and the feed rate. The models corresponded well to the experimental results, indicating that for this experimental setup, the optimal conditions were a bowl G-Level of 40 G, a feed rate of 220 g/min and an air fluidising pressure of 8 psi.  相似文献

In this work, the synthesis of cheap BiVO4 photoanodes for the photoelectrochemical water splitting reaction was optimized via the scalable thin film electrodeposition method. Factors affecting the photoelectrochemical activity, such as the electrodeposition time, the ratio of the Bi-KI to benzoquinone-EtOH in the deposition bath, and the calcination temperature, have been investigated by using the Central Composite Design of Experiments. Pristine monoclinic scheelite BiVO4 photoanodes having a photocurrent density of 0.45 ± 0.05 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs RHE have been obtained. It was shown that a high photocurrent density is generally dictated by the following physico-chemical properties: a higher crystallite size, optimal thickness and a porous morphology, which give rise to a low charge transfer resistance, low onset potential and a high donor density. Moreover, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the depth profile XPS analysis performed in BiVO4 photoanodes made by electrodeposition technique, from which it was concluded that the surface V species exist as V4+ while the bulk V species are V5+. The V4+ induces a higher amount of surface oxygen vacancies, which was found to be beneficial for the photoactivity.  相似文献

To protect refractory metal against oxidation at ultra-high temperatures, a MoSi2-TaSi2 ceramic coating was prepared on a pure tantalum (Ta) substrate using a novel three-step process, which included dip-coating with a molybdenum slurry, vacuum sintering, and halide-activated pack cementation (HAPC). The original coating had a MoSi2-TaSi2 double-layer structure from the surface to the substrate. After oxidation at 1700°C for 8 h in air, the coating exhibited a complex multi-layer structure composed of SiO2-Mo5Si3-MoSi2-(Mo,Ta)5Si3-TaSi2-Ta5Si3 from the outer layer to the inner layer, due to the high-temperature phase transition and diffusion of Si and O. The coating effectively protected the Ta substrate at 1700°C for 12 h without failure, thereby demonstrating great improvement to its service life in an ultra-high-temperature aerobic environment. The protective effect was attributed to the integrity of the ceramic coating and the formation of a dense, uniform SiO2 film that effectively lowered the inward oxygen diffusion rate.  相似文献

Development of efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with illumination of visible light is challenging. In this work, five chlorophyll derivatives (M-Chls; M = H2/Cu/Ni/Co/Zn) with different central ions in its cyclic tetrapyrrole ring including free base, copper, nickel, cobalt, and zinc were synthesized and employed as the effective visible-light harvester for efficient HER. In addition, two-dimensional (2D) noble metal-free co-catalyst Ti3C2Tx MXene was used as an excellent electron capturer due to its outstanding conductivity property. These M-Chls are modified on the surface of Ti3C2Tx MXene with 2D accordion-like morphology by means of a simple deposition process to form noble metal-free Chl/Ti3C2Tx-based photocatalysts for HER. It is found that the best HER performance as high as 49 μmol/h/gcat was achieved with the Co-Chl@Ti3C2Tx hybrid, which was much higher than those of other M-Chl@Ti3C2Tx composites. This research provides a specific way to synthesize low-cost and environmentally friendly natural Chls for developing highly efficient photocatalytic HER through molecular engineering.  相似文献

This study investigated mercury contamination levels in eight commercially valuable crustacean species caught off the Central Adriatic and Tyrrhenian coasts of Italy. Total mercury levels were measured by Thermal Decomposition-Amalgamation-Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. Results showed a high variability among species with values ranging from 0.070 to 1.24 (mg kg?1 wet weight). The lowest mercury levels were detected in caramote prawn (Penaeus kerathurus), warty crab (Eriphia verrucosa) and European spider crab (Maja squinado), decapods living in shallow waters. Levels exceeding the limits established by the European Commission were found in species living in close contact with bottom sediments: deepwater rose shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris), blue and red shrimp (Aristeus antennatus) and Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus). For shrimps, the inter-individual variability observed was mostly related to the body size, indicating the accumulation of mercury with age. An estimation of the human intake of mercury associated to the consumption of the crustaceans sampled and its comparison with the Tolerable Weekly Intake are provided.  相似文献
